The Dean Forest Diesel Association (DFDA) was formed in 2000 by a group of modern traction enthusiasts and aims to preserve various classes of diesel and electric locomotives which presently work or were operated on the British rail network and also industrial locos seen in today's heavy industrial works.

The Association evolved from the now defunct South Wales Diesel Locomotive Association and is located at Lydney Junction on the Dean Forest Railway as a base for restoration, maintenance and operation of the locos that it acquires. The DFDA was prominent in the final Newport Open Day Gala at the DFR on 19 May 2001 when the first Association-restored 08 was used and its first Sales stand did business. In the future, the DFDA will be organising a number of events to raise awareness of the Association, both at and away from the DFR.

Members receive our quarterly Newsletter "Power Up", membership card, special offers and reductions as they become available, members day's, a possible share issue and a chance to get your hands dirty!

At the end of 2002, a rejuvenated DFDA set up a formal Committee to oversee matters, adopting a Constitution and setting about business for 2003 to further it's causes and aims, bolstered by the acquisition in the Autumn of 2002 of the four class 73's from the Liverpool area.
